The Kansas City Chiefs franchise started in the late 1950s as the Dallas Texans, one of the original eight teams in the American Football League, which preceded the American Football Conference (AFC). In 1963, the organization moved from Dallas to Kansas City upon the invitation of former mayor, H. Roe Bartle, also known as “the Chief.” Six years later, the group won Super Bowl IV.
After the first 11 games of the 2014 regular season, the Kansas City Chiefs rank second in the AFC West division, with a record of 7-4. Alex Smith has thrown for a total of 2,211 yards, 13 touchdowns, and a 92.7 quarterback rating in his second year with the team. Running back Jamaal Charles has averaged 5.1 yards per carry, adding 772 on the season to his career rushing total of 6,595—the most in the organization’s history. On the defensive side, Chiefs outside linebacker Justin Houston leads the NFL with 13 sacks.
